At mothers2mothers (m2m), we know that there is no place for racial discrimination. Race does not define the abilities or qualities specific to a human being. This belief is central to our work and our mission to create health and hope for healthy, thriving families.
We stand against racism, at any time, in any country. We know that Black Lives Matter. m2m was born in Africa in response to a gross inequity; when Black lives did not seem to matter to the world in the face of a deadly HIV epidemic. The organisation responded by mobilising people living with and directly affected by a virus that destroyed biologically and socially. Our roots are deeply embedded in and connected to social justice and transformation. When members of any community are hurt, we are all hurt.
We grieve for the individuals and families who have lost precious lives. We dedicate our work to the change that is possible when we commit to hope, health…and love, for a more equal world.
“No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.” – Nelson R. Mandela
