Our work in Ghana

In late 2019, mothers2mothers opened its first office in West Africa—bringing our integrated approach and Mentor Mother Model to Ghana. We offer integrated Early Child Development (ECD), health and wellbeing services to women, children and their families.

Working from the Ashaiman Polyclinic and Atua Government Hospital, Mentor Mothers are engaging pregnant women and new mothers— living with, or at risk of, HIV—ensuring that they receive life-saving education and support to help their families access healthcare, start and adhere to treatment, and stay in care.

Our services include Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health, nurturing care and ECD— designed to support the critical period of development from conception, through pregnancy and breastfeeding, to when children reach three years of age.

m2m is proud to be working in partnership with the Government of Ghana (the Ghana Health Service and National AIDS Control Programme under the Ministry or Health, and the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection) and other local stakeholders to achieve our aims.

Our Impact in Ghana

Virtual elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV among m2m’s enrolled clients, according to UNAIDS guidelines:

95%

of HIV-positive women enrolled at m2m were initiated on antiretroviral therapy (ART) for life.

100%

of HIV-exposed infants of enrolled m2m clients were given ART to protect them from infection.

100%

of these HIV-exposed infants were tested for HIV at 6-8 weeks.

6 – Our MTCT rate is comparable to the UNAIDS MTCT Indicator, as outlined in their guidelines available here: https://www.unaids.org/sites/default/files/media_asset/2017-Global-AIDS-Monitoring_en.pdf. National benchmark is based on the latest available UNAIDS data, published here: https://www.unaids.org/sites/default/files/media_asset/20190722_UNAIDS_SFSFAF_2019_en.pdf
